First Nations Development Institute is currently accepting applications for their Native American Food Systems Initiative (NAFSI). Native-controlled non-profits and community-based organizations are eligible to apply for up to ten $37,500 awards. The application deadline is December 6th, 2013. There’s still a couple days left to enter the IAC Youth Essay Contest (see pdf flier below). The top three finalists will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for the Intertribal Agriculture Council’s Annual Membership Meeting from December 9-12. The essay deadline is November 1st.
We are also still accepting youth scholarship applications for the Membership Meeting. Please submit the form below ASAP for consideration.
This FREE two-day event takes place on the beautiful tsyunhehkwa farm on the Oneida Reservation. “Tsyunhehkwa” means life sustenance in Oneida, and this farm features an organic garden, green house, grass-fed cattle and chickens, white corn, raspberries, and more.

The USDA NCR-SARE Youth Educator Grant is accepting applications until October 24th for projects for projects assisting youth educators in research, demonstration, and learning about sustainable agriculture.
The Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin Grant to help producers address marketing, distribution, and processing hurdles is accepting applications until October 21st. This state program is administered by the Department of Ag., Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
The North Central Region (NCR) SARE Farmer Rancher Grant is now open for innovative proposals aimed at addressing on-farm problems. Maximum grant amount is $7500 for individuals, $15,000 for partnerships, and $22,500 for groups. Application deadline is October 24, 2013.
USDA Rural Development is accepting applications for its RBOG grant to help rural businesses expand and create jobs. $2.6 million in total funding is available, which includes a Tribal set-aside of $919,820. The application deadline is June 28th, 2013.
Pre-proposalsfor the SARE Professional Development Program (PDP) Grant are due on May 16th, 2013. PDP grants are designed to support professional development projects aimed at training agricultural professional and educators.
The Intertribal Agriculture Council currently has an ongoing SARE PDP project for an Agricultural Skills Workshop Series over the next three years. We are organizing a series of workshops across the region focusing on a variety of sustainable ag. topics. The funding is primarily being used for participant travel and other logistical expenses.
