Food Sovereignty Summit

Following up on last year’s successful Great Lakes Region Producer Summit, a collaboration among the Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin, First Nations Development Institute, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, and the Intertribal Agriculture Council is organizing a Food Sovereignty Summit from April 15-18, 2013 at the Oneida’s Radisson Hotel and Conference Center.  The agenda will be forthcoming in the near future, but we do already have a save-the-date that is posted below.

USDA Program Workshop at Bay Mills

Come learn about how the Bay Mills Community College (BMCC)’s Waishkey Farm has used a variety of USDA programs to start their sustainable farm that grows and produces vegetable, fruit, grazing livestock, and poultry.

The travel scholarship deadline has been extended to Monday, August 20th, and scholarship requests or other questions should be sent to Dan Cornelius (dan@indianaglink.com).

Limited Scholarships Available for GLR Producer Summit

We are happy to announce limited travel scholarships are now available for the Great Lakes Region Food Producer Summit at Oneida on April 23-24.  Priority will be given to food producers with the greatest need.  The scholarship form is attached.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so please get yours submitted as soon as possible.

Tribal TSP Training – LCO, March 21-22

The La Courte Oreilles Tribal College will be hosting a Tribal Technical Service Provider (TSP) Training on March 21-22.  The training is intended to help participants become certified at Technical Service Providers, which a requirement for obtaining contracts under USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).

The Tribal TSP Training is a pilot project conducted by College of Menominee Nation and Wisconsin NRCS.  The agenda is attached below.  Contact Brian Kowalkowski (BKowalkowski@menominee.edu) for more information or to register.

2011 Native Youth in Ag Essay Winners

The Youth Luncheon is always one of the major highlights of the IAC-INCA Annual Symposium.  This year’s essay winners met the exceptional standard set by previous winners in reading their visions for tribal ag over the next twenty-five years. Generous support from Wrangler, USDA, Walmart, and others allowed this contest to happen and reward the essay winners for their impassioned work.

IAC Annual Symposium

The annual IAC symposium will take place this December 5-9 in Las Vegas at the flamingo Hotel. Made of producers from around the country will gather to share success stories, particularly relating to the of USDA programs.

WORKSHOPS: Tribal Co-op Development & Three Sisters Planting

Join the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Great Lakes Indigenous Law Center and the Intertribal Agriculture and partners, including the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives, the Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance (NAFSA), for a Roundtable on Tribal Cooperative Development and Value Added Products in Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday morning, June 5th.  Register online for the Tuesday morning Roundtable and Indigenous Seeds Project by clicking here.  In addition to this half-day session, there are several related events occurring in Madison from June 4-6, including the
